Welcome to the Hillcrest Community School Council
What we do The Hillcrest Community School council plays an important role in student success and is an excellent way for you to get involved in your child’s education. School council encourages a strong partnership between the school and the parent community, representing an important forum for involving all members of the school community in matters that affect the education of students. The school council advises the principal and the board on a variety of issues and activities relating to student achievement, curriculum goals and priorities, school budget priorities, school safety, renovation plans, after school activities, and criteria for selection of new principals. In turn, school council helps communicate the priorities and activities of the school to parents and caregivers. School councils help good schools become better! Who are the members of school council? The school council is made up of an elected committee of parents, appointed staff and community representatives, and the principal. In particular, the Hillcrest Community School council has an executive consisting of Chair, Co-chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Kindergarten Rep, Diversity Rep, and Past Chair. In addition to the council executive, Hillcrest’s council is made up of Parent Reps, a Teacher Rep, a Community Rep, and the Principal. How to get involved Hillcrest school council welcomes involvement from any member of the school’s parent community. Council elections are held twice a year in May and in September. In addition to serving on council, parents can volunteer to support the diverse activities the council undertakes. Please speak to a member of the school council or send an email to the council address for more information or to volunteer. What is the responsibility of a council member?
Please feel free to approach any of us at drop-offs or pickups, or to reach out via email at any time ([email protected]) with ideas, suggestions or if you would like to become more involved. We look forward to speaking with you, and hope to see you at an upcoming Council meeting.
